EEF takes policy to Westminster

In July 2009 the manufacturers’ organisation, EEF, set out a vision to put industry at the centre of a more diverse and durable UK economy. Manufacturing - Our Future reflects the aspirations of the thousands of EEF’s members, who represent over a third of those employed in the sector.

To keep manufacturing concerns a priority at such a strategically important time in the political calendar, EEF has launched its We ♥ Manufacturing campaign and is urging everyone to pledge support at
www.lovemanufacturing.co.uk during and beyond Manufacturing Week (01-05 March 2010). So, how can EEF make a difference to the future of industry?

Who is EEF?

The manufacturer’s organisation is a representative voice for manufacturing in the UK. Its activities are guided by its member companies through regional advisory councils and a national board comprising leading manufacturers, which together employ more than a million people. Its profits are reinvested for the benefit of the sector, and fund the development of new services, networking programmes, thought leadership and policy work.

What exactly does EEF do?

It provides a combination of business services, government representation and industry intelligence. From employment to health & safety advice; skills development to economic trends; legislative insights to in-depth research, it works closely with government at regional, national and European level to encourage manufacturing-friendly polices. In short, EEF helps manufacturers evolve, innovate and compete.

What is EEF’s long-term vision?

To secure the future of manufacturing - the UK’s real economy. Its ‘Manufacturing - Our Future’ campaign sets out a vision for putting manufacturing at the centre of a more diverse and durable UK economy. EEF argues that the UK's future economic prosperity, and ability to face challenges, such as globalisation and climate change, is inextricably linked to the development of a strong UK manufacturing base. It argues this will not happen without a different approach by manufacturers and politicians. For companies, that means focusing on the future and evolving to become more innovative, agile and diverse. For policy makers, that means adopting a dramatically different mindset. This can create an investment-friendly business environment and directly support those markets and sectors in which the UK has potential to develop a sustainable competitive advantage.
